I know you want to control mosquitoes, but please read the following.

Bottom line:
Bug zappers are EVIL👺
And. They. Don’t. Work! (News Flash: read on for a new and possibly better option!)
Until recently, the only nature-friendly ways to avoid killing droves of beneficial and harmless insects have been to:
-use a targeted product like Mosquito Bits or Mosquito Dunks (see images below)
-use a fly swatter or one of those fun “electric tennis rackets”
-or encourage dragonflies, damselflies, and bats in your yard by creating a natural pond or adding bat houses.
DEET is still the best repellent, and no studies have ever shown it to be harmful in any way! I use a 100% product much of the time, or I spray on a 40% product to cover larger areas.
Remarkably, there is solid evidence that American Beautyberry actually contains repellent properties (but try rubbing it on your skin a little bit at first to see if you are allergic). In the wild, however, I would use it only if I ran out of DEET. There is another active ingredient called picarin, found in some products, that seems to work
I don’t trust those backyard spray systems; they kill everything, including the predators that eat mosquitoes. This creates a vicious cycle; since mosquitoes have a much more rapid reproductive time than their natural predators, you need to spray the bug stuff more often and you kill even more of the good guys and bring more of the mosquitoes…
The good news is that there is a NEW product on the market that I am now using successfully! The Biogents BG Mosquitaire system (pictured below) includes a little mesh bag that holds captured mosquitoes, and, every time I check it I see dozens of desiccated Asian Tiger Mosquito corpses in it. Any product that claims to kill all mosquitoes is a hoax, since different species of mosquitoes are attracted to humans in a variety of different ways. This one targets the tiger mosquitoes, which also happens to be some of the most abundant mosquitoes in my region, and also the ones that carries some of the really nasty viruses. This device uses no pesticides, just a simulated human odor attractant packet that you replace every eight weeks. Used in conjunction with Mosquito Bits, I’m knocking down the density of backyard mosquitoes. The devices are expensive and you need to plug them into an electrical outlet, so where you put it in your yard is of strategic importance. I am sold on this product!
