Martin Byhower, our guide
Martin as a guide was different from most guides that I have experienced. Unlike most guides, he didn’t walk along and point to where he heard a bird and say, “I hear a Humpty Dumpty bird over there” and walk on leaving his employers, in this case David and me, to try to find the bird on their own. Rather, he stopped and tried to get both David and me onto the bird, unless it had flown away. I appreciated that thoughtfulness because my hearing, even with excellent hearing aids is at best poor. So, more often than not, when a guide says, “I hear a Humpty Dumpty bird over there”, I don’t hear what was said. Therefore, I don’t have a clue about what is going on.
I was even more impressed with Martin as a person. He really gives a hoot about his employers and their needs. He also cares about our environment and he works his tail off to make it better for all of us. In my experience, I have found that there are there are three kinds of people. There are people who make things happen, and there are people who watch things happen, and there are people who wonder what happened. Martin is one who makes things happen and the world is a better place because of what he has done for all of us.
